Unfortunately, despite the fact
that the first week of January was like a little oasis in the winter, and me
and my companion thought we were in the clear after only like three weeks,
winter has come back with a vengeance, and the strong wind everyday only makes
it worse. However, it makes for some fun stories, Elder Grant was jumping off a
curb one day and I literally saw the wind push him a couple of inches further
into the street than he would have, we both flipped out and thought it was
super cool.
We also had a Soiree Familiale the next day, and were able to teach
a really good spiritual thought to the Beziers Equip ami about the Restoration,
and she really felt the spirit. We then all had crepes afterwards, French
crepes are fantastic. In other news, the Zone Leaders came and did an exchange
with us here in Narbonne, super fun, because there was four missionaries here
and we were all so happy that day, we were able to find two new amis and fix 6
rendez-vous. Such a fun time, our Zone Leaders are about the goofiest in the
mission, and we love them dearly. We then had a district meeting the next day,
and had a lot of fun, it was about goal setting and becoming more delightful,
and it was really good, the ZLs were there and it was a lot of fun.
This week
we are just starting is the last week of the transfer, and me and Elder Grant
are kinda sad, we get along really well, and it’s not likely we'll stay
together, so we're determined to work really hard this week. Next week I may be
going to a new ville, nobody knows, which I have mixed feelings about, I love
Narbonne a lot.
We dropped two of our amis last
week because they weren't really progressing, one of them has been seeing
missionaries on and off for months but has never kept engagements, and the
other has now not shown up to three rendez-vous, so we decided it was for the
best. That made this week kind of a ground zero week, we're starting to try and
build back up our teaching pool, so we spent basically all week out on the
street contacting or way out in the neighborhoods going door to door. We had a
good zone conference though, it was an interview conference, so after President
Roney talked and addressed us all about how we can become a more delightsome
people by applying all the Christlike attributes in Preach my Gospel chapter
six more and more in our efforts, he took every one of us one by one into a
room and we had our interviews, one of the coolest experiences I have had on
the mission! Other than that though, we mostly worked trying to find people.
This made for a long week, but it was ok, we talked to a lot of people, though
almost no one wanted to see us again later.
But, then this Sunday this crazy
miracle happened! We were all in church, sitting in Sunday School, and this
really young, nice looking African walked in, he sat for a little while, then
he and the beziers elders went out (the church for the members in Narbonne is
in Beziers) and talked. Turns out he's a recent convert who first heard about
the church in Beziers, and then left, but got baptized in Paris! He went
upstairs with the other elders and the senior couple. Then this other guy walks
in, completely unknown, so me and my companion start to talk to him, and turns
out he'd been talking with the missionaries online at mormon.org, but this was
the first time he had come to church or talked with anyone in real life! He was
really cool, and so we took him upstairs to the class with the other elders,
recent convert, and the senior couple, and the senior elder was able to teach a
little about out church. Then, the recent convert bore his powerful testimony
about how everything in this church you can find out for your own self whether
or not it is true, and how he himself got baptized. Really powerful, and the beziers
elders were able to fix a follow up rendez-vous with the guy, to teach him
more, he was really interested! Then later that day, me and Elder Grant knocked
on this lady's house, and after we had talked for a while, she told us how she
was really going through a rough time right now, and she didn't know if God was
really there. Me and Elder Grant both bore our testimonies, and promised He is,
and that He would answer her prayers. She really liked that, and invited us to
come back another time, she said she was interested in what we have to say. A
really great end to a hard week, and we had such a good day.
